Star Trek

Stark Trek opened this weekend and is a huge box office smash. So far the film has made $72.5 million in theaters and another $8.2 million at IMAX screens — beating out the $6.3 million record held by Dark Knight last year. The hype and buzz about Star Trek and the great reviews it’s garnering should put the movie at the top of the charts for weeks to come.  J.J. Abrams has done an amazing job drawing in hardcore Star Trek fans as well as those unfamiliar with the franchise. With Chris Pine as James T. Kirk, Zoë Saldana as Nyota Uhura, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Zachary Quinto as  Spock, Eric Bana as Nero, Winona Ryder as Amanda Grayson,  Karl Urban as Dr. Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy, and with appearances by Leonard Nimoy Star Trek is a must see summer movie.

You can read more about Star Trek’s galactic opening at EW and The Associated Press.

ReelzChannel Movie News has some fan reviews of the film as well as an interview with J.J. Abrams. Due to Star Trek’s huge success a sequel has already been slated for 2011.

  1. I think the mainstreaming to average movie goers was the key. Makes it a little less Trek though. Word of mouth now takes over.

Here is my take on the movie (with lots o’ pics) if you are interested:
